Scope

Superalloys have regained momentum: There are worldwide efforts to increase the efficiency and to extend the lifetime of energy conversion facilities. Materials in those new scenarios depend on improved materials and manufacturing techniques. They are supposed to exhibit out?standing mechanical strength and creep resistance at high temperatures as well as corrosion and oxidation resistance. Superalloys have this potential. Though many of the commercial grades still base on metallurgical concepts that date back to the 1980's. They have typically been employed in only a few prominent areas. Progress to improve their temperature capability and to adapt manufacturing processing to new application fields represent major challenges for today's researchers in both industry and academia.

This European Symposium on Superalloys will present and discuss the current state of progress in development, production and behaviour of cast, wrought and powder-metallurgical superalloys as well as of associated coating systems. Moreover, recent advances in metal-based materials will be addressed aiming at properties beyond those of Superalloys with respect to e.g. temperature capability or density.

The organisers at DGM and SF2M feel that there is a need beyond the most successful US-American Superalloys Conference to serve the European Community every four years in-between.

The organisers look forward to receiving many papers.
